What a life!!

Hey u all.

Now I'm officially 13 and can call my self a teenager.

I dont feel anything really - I mean as a teenager and before I became one. May be in a few months time - may be.

It's just that I seem to get on abah's and mom's nerves more than before. They (especially mum) are always saying that I dont do things right. Could it be that I'm a teenager and people say this is the time we become rebellious?

I dont think I am, really. For example, I dont know why if I overslept during weekends, mum will say something (nagging??) just because I somehow take my time in tidying the bed. It's not that I dont want to but what's the point to make it all nice and all if I were to lie in it again later? Right?

This also goes when I take my time to bathe (on weekends, ok??), to get things for her, scold my younger siblings, reply when she calls me and other list of things that are just too long for me to mention.

Do I really need to show good examples to Heikal, Sharmaine and Selena? Oh please!! I also need a break!!

Ok. May be I'm exaggerating here. Partly it's also my fault but it's just that sometimes I just dont want to follow the rules. So is that rebellious?

Some of my friends go through this too so I know I'm no different from other teenagers. Normal (I hope:-))

May be it's also part of life that I have to go through. So patience please. But whatever it is I'm grateful that I still get things that I want from my parents (although I need to beg, give good reasons and after showing good behaviour. For example : school work revision (i may be pretending to revise - who is to know?) and no internet during weekdays).

Now I need some things from them, so gotta to behave. They are a black leather jacket, camera and more pocket money (please! please!) Problem is I still owe her because she has deducted my pocket money for the nokia handphone I got from kakak shasha. It'll only pay off in November!!

But wait! Since it's my birthday I may get these things sooner!! Yippee!!
And I also have a list of things that I can charge my parents. For example, washing her car, abah's motobikes (just trying my luck!) and may be cleaning the garden ( dont know whether they need me for this though). Wish me luck, ok??

So back to the story of my birthday. We had one and celebrated it with all my family yesterday.

We had it with the first day buka puasa at home too. The rest of my extended family came over too. Mama Olin brought the bamiah and some brought pot luck. Mum also got a birthday cake for me (it was a two in one celebration so that we dont need to have another get-together to celebrate my birthday). So thank you everyone for coming!!

Me with all my cousins - (L-R) Farhan, Sonia, Soraya, Abang, Kakak Ellysha, Me, Kakak Shaira, Adik and Kakak Shasha. My brother Heikal is partly hidden.

On friday we also had another get-together at mama olin's to celebrate abang adel's admission to Waterloo University in Canada. He's going next week (gonna miss you abang adel). There were lasagne, satay, trifle, carrot cake, spaghetti, pizza, ice carbonated drinks and hagen daz ice cream (please help I'm fasting now!! I should have eaten all that night!!)

Mama Olin's trifle

Mummy Lalin's carrot cake

Om Amed, Uncle Azmi, Kakak Ina (hidden), Kak Dayang at the dining table waiting for the guest of honour (Abang Adel) to arrive

Everyone enjoying the food

So my birthday, abang adel's celebration and the coming of ramadhan added a bit of thrill to my weekend. Also need to practise "the climb" for Om Amed next week!!

Oh! what a life!!

A Day of Joy

I had a full day today.

I got up early to get my flu vaccination and by mid day, I had to prepare myself for a "Majlis Bertunang" of my cousin - Kak Fira.

We reached Cik Ana's house at about 2.30pm. I saw a tent and food was displayed by the side of the porch. God! there was so much and it looked really appetizing (actually it really made my tummy grumble bcos I hadnt had my lunch then). When I went into the house, the "hantarans" were nicely displayed in a row. Kak Fira gave 9 dulangs and the boy side later came with 5.

Actually at first, I didn't know the difference between "bertunang" and "nikah" (silly me!!). So I kept asking my mum where was the bridegroom bcos Kak Fira's mum, Cik Ana also prepared a pelamin. Mum had to explain that the pelamin was meant to"sarung cincin".

After the exchange of words between two families, Mama Olin brought Kak Fira down for the sarung cincin ceremony. I thought Kak Fira looked resplendent in a turquoise baju kebaya (cun!!).

The two close cousins - Kak Ina and Kak Fira, just before Kak Fira was brought down for the sarung cincin ceremony

After that it was the makan time. The food was delicious. It was prepared by mum's cousin, Cik Noi and there were Javanese and Singaporean dishes. I could see that Mom and her sisters really enjoyed the food and thankfully there were Kak Ina and Cik Ida who were very kind to serve them!!

Apart from the food, I also knew that mom and my aunts were very happy to meet up with their cousins and relatives from Singapore that I had to insist several time that it was time to go home after the function was over.

When we got home, I had some rest before leaving for Mummy Aza's. It was for Uncle Terry's 64th bday. Yeah!!.

As usual, Mummy Lalin made a nice birthday cake. It was a West Ham cake complete with it's logo and colour. Superb!! Uncle Terrry was lost for words when Mummy Lalin showed him the cake. Who wouldnt? He is a dead fan of that team!!

So it was another day of joy and good food before I call it a day in a while.

Goodnite and hope you'll have a good weekend too!!

Lots of love,
Sara

Absentism with Excuse

Yup! Will have a week off and that's with a big "ok" from my school.

Coincidentally, it's exam week but due to this big "pig" + "flu" issue will now have 2 more weeks to revise. Exams been moved to the 14th. Phew!!

But there's a catch. It's not really gonna be all fun bcos we cant go roaming around town. We've been told to stay put. Yes! At home.

So, bye now. Gotta hit the books but will surf an hour or two before mum gets home:)

Lots of luv,
Sara

Hello Again!!

Hello! Hello!

I have not been updating my blog. I know. What's the point of having one when you can't manage the blog? Well, it's unintentional. Really. Firstly, my dear brother Heikal spoilt the laptop that we share when he broke the LCD and refused to admit. So mom got very mad and barred us from touching it again. Secondly, the desk top one was also spoilt by him (also he did not admit) so mom is taking her time fixing it (thanks so much Heikal for being so careful with things!). Somehow mom thinks that she has punished us enough so I'm at her mercy to use this other laptop (watch out Heikal you can use this only under strict supervision!!)

So what have I been up to for the last 2 months?

The usual. School. Homework. Tests. However, there were interesting and memorable days.

For the month of June, we had three reasons to celebrate.

The first was Kakak Amalina's Kenduri Kesyukuran. Om Kamal had it to thank Allah for making it possible for Kakak Amalina to enter and continue her studies in UITM. That was a good reason to "makan-makan" and get-together at Om Kamal's.

The next week, we held my baby sister's "Majlis Berendoi" at home. We had the "berzanji", the "cukur jambul" and the "pijak tanah". My cousin - Sofia and I sat on the pelamin and pushed her "buai" while the ladies sang the "berzanji" songs. It was quite an experience.

That's me with Adik Sofia, my Grandmum and mom on the pelamin. Selena is in the "buai"

Later that night we had a wedding reception for Uncle Ayob at home. Uncle Ayob is my dad's good friend who used to stay with us. He is like an adopted son to my late grandfather and has become part of our big family.

So it was a lot of eating that day - nasi beriani during the day and roast lamb, satay, rojak, sotong kangkong, ice kacang, cendol and nasi minyak that night. (And of course the delicious desserts!)

The following week, we had another reason to celebrate. It was a "Laksa Johor Party" for mom. She celebrated her 39th birthday.

Cik Ton cooked the Laksa Johor and it was simply irresistable. I'm not kidding. Cik Ton's Laksa Johor is the best (and of course apart from my mom's!). Mummy Lalin brought the cakes as usual. Yummy!!

Later that night, we (Mommy Olin, Uncle Azmi, Papa Nik, Mommy Lalin, Mommy Ena, Kakak Shaira and I) continued the "party" at Red Box. It was so much fun although abah and the birthday girl (that's mom) stayed home because mom had too much of the Laksa Johor and was breathless to sing!!

Then, sometime in mid July we had another celebration. It was for Om Kamal's 48th birthday. This time Cik Ton cooked mee mamak and it was not pre-cooked. The cakes? It was brownies and cheese cake. Sedaap!!

(Now you guys know why i seriously need to go on that X-trainer that mom bought. Don't blame me for eating! It's my mom and her siblings who always find reasons to meet up and serve us good food!!)

At school, I also had one eventful and memorable week. That was the highlight for month of July for me. It was the "Sri Aman Got Talent" competition at school.

My friends and I were excited when the school announced about the competition. Although we did not have much time to practise, we wanted to give a try. We only had about 3 days before the audition. So it was really stressful but we tried our best. Alia and I played the guitar, Talya and Sandya sang. We hoped the song "The climb" would bring us luck.

Thankfully we were right and we got second place.

So if you're wondering how we performed, it's at youtube -"Sri Aman Got Talent - The Climb". Hope you guys like it too!! C ya!

My Daddy Cool

This is my dad. People call him Mack but we call him Abah.

Abah on his CBR 600 before going for his Sunday Ride

Abah is one cool dad. He rides the big bike and loves to cook for us. Whenever I crave for nasi goreng, it's Abah that I ask to make one for me and not Mom (sorry Mom!). In fact, my cousins like his nasi goreng too although I must say that the taste changes each time he cooks but we don't mind that.

Abah's simple but yummy nasi goreng (which he also claims to be "ajinomoto and MSG free")

Abah also has an alter ego. Mom and I think that he actually wants to be a hairstylist! It's really the opposite of what Abah does for a living. You know why? The nature of his job requires someone to be rugged and tough. It sometimes requires Abah to be in the forest (overnight and a few days) and to handle tractors and lorries . That's why he enjoyed the movie - `Don't Mess With The Zohan '!

One of the places where Abah goes to work

So Abah cuts his own hair and sometimes volunteers to cut ours. He stopped cutting mine when I discovered the hairdressers! Of course my brother, Heikal has not been able to say `No' and has been Abah's `guinea pig' (you can see Abah experimental hairstyles on Heikal!!! Haha poor Heikal!) Although Abah has not been able to convince Mom that he's able to cut her hair, Abah has on many occasions blow-dried Mom's hair and he's much better than Mom herself !!!

Abah turned 41 last Friday. As he was away in Terengganu, we decided to celebrate when he came back on Saturday. Unfortunately, Abah was not feeling well so we had to postpone to lunch on Sunday. As usual, if we celebrated our birthdays it would either be at Jake's , Chilli's or TGIF. Abah chose TGIF and Mummy Ena offered to treat him ( Thx Mummy Ena! ).

Abah's Birthday Lunch at TGIF

Abah had earlier warned us not to make him blow his birthday cake in public or get the waiters at TGIF to sing to him (he finds it annoying- Abah, you're a party-pooper), so we blew the birthday candles and sang happy birthday at home. Of course Sharmaine, my little sister got excited and thought it was all for her!

Later that day, we spent some time with Abah at Taman Tun Park. Also, Mom said that I ate too much for lunch and needed to shed a few pounds off !! ( Oh Mom gimme a break ! ) Thank god Mummy Azah and Abang Jazzlan came later in the evening and followed us to the Park. That made my walk more interesing (and less tiring) because Abang Jazzlan and I chatted during the walk .

After I completed my exercise I actually felt lighter and by the end of the day enjoyed the good time I had with Abah, my family and of course the company of Mummy Ena , Abang Adel, Kak Shaira , Mummy Azah and Abang Jazzlan .

`HAPPY 41st BIRTHDAY ABAH !'

`You're my Daddy Cool and we love you!'

Lots of love,
Sara
